It will be named the Nazem Kadri Surgical Centre.
The foundation said in a statement that Kadri “donated the lead gift needed to propel this project forward,” and as a result, it renamed it to the Nazem Kadri Surgical Centre. Across from LHSC’s Victoria Hospital campus, the surgical center opened in 2020 and provides patients who require low risk and less complex surgeries in the realm of orthopedic or sports medicine with an alternate location to receive their operations. These low-risk surgeries include foot procedures; ankle, hip and knee arthroscopies; and ACL repairs.
“As a kid growing up London, Ont., my community is very important to me and my family,” Kadri said in a video posted on the @LHSFCanada Twitter account. “As I got older, I felt the need to contribute back to the community that raised me. I’m honoured to give back to my community by establishing the Nazem Kadri Surgical Centre. Please join me in transforming surgical care for patients across our community.”
“It is because of Nazem Kadri’s transformational gift that world-class innovation is made possible, right here in London,” said London Health Sciences Foundation President & CEO John MacFarlane during Thursday’s press conference. “This gift is just the beginning of what is possible at the Nazem Kadri Surgical Centre.”
It’s been a busy summer for Kadri. Along with winning his first Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche, he brought the Cup to London and made history by bringing it to a mosque when taking it to the London Muslim Mosque. He then signed a seven year contract with a $7 million cap hit with the Flames in the offseason.
Kadri is also coming off a career year in the NHL. In just 71 games last season, he had 28 goals, 59 assists and 87 points, the latter two being career highs for the center.
