Blackhawks Rally, Season Ends With 5-4 Loss to Los Angeles

The Chicago Blackhawks looked down and out by the third period but a trio of goals from Tyler Johnson, Joey Anderson and Ryan Donato brought the Hawks back from a 3-1 deficit.

But Viktor Arvidsson buried the tying goal late in the third, and then the Kings won just six seconds into overtime,

Despite being heavily outshot, the Blackhawks managed to find a way and grind out a game that looked very much over after two periods. But they just couldn’t hold on and the Kings found a way to win.

The Blackhawks took a 1-0 lead on a Lukas Reichel goal that can be seen as some momentum heading into next season. The Kings evened things later, and looked to have lost the lead when Jason Dickinson scored shorthanded after a beautiful feed from Colin Blackwell. But the goal was overturned and the the Kings went back to work. They potted two 70 seconds apart and from there, just needed to contain the Blackhawks. Tyler Johnson would bury his 17th of the season and then Joey Anderson notched his fifth just two minutes later to tie things up early in the third period. It was then Donato burying his 12th of the season. Donato, who scored the first goal of the season would be credited with the final Blackhawks goal of the season as well.

It wasn’t meant to be a Hawks win–but at least they made the final game an interesting one.

Blackhawks Win Gives Some

On November 9th, the Blackhawks were 7-9 following a 5-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. From there, though, they’d go on a five-game losing streak that would start the tailspin of losing in long stretches. From that point, the Blackhawks went 16-45-5, with seven of those wins coming in March. It’s staggering to think that from November 9th until March 5th, the Blackhawks won just eight games before they pieced together nine victories in a month’s worth of time.

April, though, was miserable seeing just one win. Regardless, the season is over and now it becomes intriguing to see what the Blackhawks plan to do this offseason because another year like the last two and clearly there’s bigger issues to begin sorting out. It’s hard enough winning a single game before going on a prolonged losing streak. It’s a whole other enduring it for a third consecutive season.
