Nate Davis to Miss Sunday With a Sprained Ankle, Terrell Smith to Miss 3-4 Weeks with Mono
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

The injuries piled up once against in Week 6 for the Chicago Bears. After losing a number of players in Week 5 against the Washington Commanders, the Bears have now lost quarterback Justin Fields for the foreseeable future. In addition , starting right guard Nate Davis has a high ankle sprain and will likely miss Sunday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Also, rookie cornerback Terrell Smith will miss 3-4 weeks with mono.

Davis has been really good for the Bears so far in 2023. After a lot of confusion around his absence during training camp, Davis has settled in nicely after dealing with some personal issues. However, his loss dramatically effects the offensive line entering Sunday's matchup against the Raiders. Ideally, Lucas Patrick, Cody Whitehair, or Ja'Tyre Carter will replace the starter.

As for Smith, he will miss time with mono. Its a very unfortunate situation for Smith, as he has played quite well in his limited action so far this season. Ideally, the three weeks come and go and he'll be ok. Luckily, the Bears were healthier in the secondary on Sunday after Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon returned. Eddie Jackson also returned, but left Sunday's game early.

Although Smith's presence will be missed from a depth perspective, Davis' absence will be more noticeable this Sunday. Tyson Bagent will need all the help he can get from a protection standpoint, and having Davis on the sideline certainly isn't beneficial. That said, the Bears will need to tweak the gameplan to ensure Bagent can get rid of the ball quickly and not be forced to stand in and take a lot of sacks.
