Cubs Star Outfielder Could Be MVP Darkhorse
Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

The disappointment surrounding the Chicago Cubs is warranted. The front office hasn't done enough yet this offseason to add talent and it's been a call for concern at times.

What makes it even tougher is that the Cubs have talent.

They need more, but they have a good group of players who could potentially turn into more in the future.

Of those players, Seiya Suzuki might be the most promising one.

While 29-year-old Suzuki has played in just two big league seasons, he made it clear during 2023 that he's improving and has a chance to be one of the game's best.

The question for Suzuki, however, is what level his game can reach.

He finished last season slashing .285/.357/.842 with 20 home runs and 74 RBI, despite some of the inconsistencies at times. Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic believes that Suzuki could receive MVP votes in 2024. He also reported the following from Chicago's general manager Carter Hawkins:

"When you see Seiya play at his best, it’s one of the best bats in major league baseball," the GM said. "He’s got a chance to be in that upper tier of power bats."

If Suzuki receives MVP votes next year, that should be a promising sign for the team as a whole. With the team the Cubs currently have, Suzuki might very well be the best hitter. There's even a strong argument that he was the best hitter on the team last season.

With Cody Bellinger's free agency decision still being decided, Chicago could be entering the season with Suzuki as the obvious choice for the best hitter on the team.

Either way, Suzuki and the Cubs should be excited about the future. He seems to be loving the city and the front office seems to have found a rising star.
